Serving Hiawatha

A Hiawatha sprinkler company that answers the phone

Hiawatha borders both Marion and the north side of Cedar Rapids, so it sits right inside our shortest service loop.

DDM Irrigation has repaired and installed in-ground sprinkler systems across eastern Iowa since 1987. It's the same family business that brothers Dan and Dave started, working out of one shop in Marion. When you call about a Hiawatha yard, the crew that shows up is ours, not a subcontractor.

Hiawatha has a lot of 1980s and 1990s neighborhoods, which means a fair share of first-generation systems that need heads, valves, or a controller brought up to date.

What we fix on Hiawatha sprinkler systems

Most repair calls start with one symptom: a zone that won't run, a wet spot that won't dry out, or a water bill that jumped. We find the cause, tell you what it costs, and fix it.

Broken or stuck heads
Mower strikes, snowplow damage, and heads that won't pop up. We carry common Hunter heads on the truck, so most Hiawatha head repairs are done on the first visit.
Zones that won't turn on or off
Usually a valve diaphragm, a solenoid, or a cut wire. We trace it with a meter instead of guessing and digging.
Leaks and wet spots
A soggy patch or a jump in the water bill usually means a cracked lateral line or a leaking valve. We find it and fix just that section.
Dry spots and poor coverage
We re-aim, re-nozzle, or add heads so the whole yard gets water, not the driveway.
Controller problems
Old timers that lose their program, or a swap to a Hunter Wi-Fi controller you run from your phone.
Backflow repair and testing
6 of our crew are certified backflow testers. If a device fails, we rebuild it and re-test it.

Sprinkler system installation in Hiawatha

How a new Hiawatha system goes in

We design every system zone by zone for the yard in front of us. Most residential installs are finished in one day, and every one carries our 1-year warranty.

  1. 01

    On-site walk-through

We come out, measure the yard, note the pressure at your spigot, and determine how many zones your yard requires before we quote a number. Free.

  2. 02

    Zone-by-zone design

Head spacing is planned for full coverage, no dry corners. Drip zones for beds can be added as an extra, priced separately from the lawn zones.

  3. 03

    Trenching & pipe

Trenches are cut with a vibratory plow so the sod goes back down clean, with wire pulled to every valve.

  4. 04

    Controller & valves

Hunter controller wired inside the garage or on the outside of your home, valves buried in boxes flush with the ground.

  5. 05

    Same-day finish

Most residential yards are installed, plumbed, wired, tested, and cleaned up in a single day. We walk you through the controller before we leave.

  6. 06

    First year covered

The first winterization in October and first spring start-up in April are included with the install under the 1-year warranty. Product warranty varies by item.

Hiawatha questions

What Hiawatha homeowners ask us

How fast can you fix my sprinklers?

Most repairs are done the same day when we have the parts on the truck. Buried valves and mainline breaks can take a second visit.

Can you repair a system another company installed?

Yes. We service Hunter equipment from the last twenty years and fit modern equivalents for older or off-brand parts.

Is it better to repair or replace?

It depends on the system. We'll diagnose it first and give you a written estimate either way.

How long does a new installation take?

Most yards take one day. Larger properties can take two.
